Unit 1: Working with Circuits
Overview:
In this unit, students will be introduced to electrical circuitry in order to gain insight into how our technology devices work. The unit will start with students making simple circuits using homemade playdoh, batteries, and LED lights. Students will then learn about the hardware involved in our devices as they take apart an electronic toy and pull out the circuitry components. Students will later create their own circuit board and turn it into a game—a collection of circuits that will turn on or off depending on whether the game player has the correct answer. At the conclusion of the unit, students will combine hardware with software as they use a Makey-Makey (hardware) and Scratch programming language (software) to build and play their own circuit instrument.
